NONI FRUIT (MORINDA CITRIFOLIA)
Morinda Citrifolia is commonly known as Great Morinda, Indian Mulberry, Beach Mulberry, Tahitian Noni, or since
recently: Noni (from Hawaiian), Nono (in Tahitian, Mengkudu (from Malay), Nonu (in Tongan), and Ach (in Hindi).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noni . Noni is the fruit from an evergreen tree that grows and flourishes in tropical, volcanic
regions such as Tahiti and Hawaii . The volcanic soil contains very high concentrations of minerals and other nutrients,
which leach into the noni fruit. The nutrients in the noni fruit are thus more powerful and concentrated than those in any
other foods that most of us experience in our diet. Therein lies noni’s healing strength. Very high in organic trace
minerals, with over 160 nutrients and other novel compounds
- Helps support healthy serotonin levels
- Has proven beneficial effects on the immune system
- Demonstrates anti-inflammatory effects
- Helps to build up reserve energy in our organs Helps to control infections
- Helps destroy harmful fungi, bacteria, and yeasts
- Helps remove toxins in the digestive system and the bloodstream
- Helps remove sugar from the bloodstream
- Acts as a powerful catalyst, increasing the power and availability of other nutrients
- Is a powerful digestive bitter, rich in natural enzymes
- Good on the skin for burns, abrasions, cuts, wounds, and bruises
Noni has been used as a healing and medicinal plant for over 2000 years by ancient cultures. Its healing and restorative
powers to the human body are legendary. It is akin to “gold” in the South Pacific and is quickly gaining the same
reputation in countries all over the world.
Noni fruit has been commercialised in the USA since the 1990s and has increasingly been distributed all over the world.
The fruit is very bitter and has an adverse odor. For use in the United States , the Noni fruit is prepared primarily as a food
supplement in juice form. The noni juice supplement is very palatable in taste and smell because of the addition of
natural grape and blueberry juices.
A large number of beneficial effects have been claimed for Noni. Apparently, most governments are sold on it and are
studying its effect upon different illnesses. For instance, fruit juice of Noni was approved as a Novel Food by the
European Commission in 2003; the U.S. Government, NCCAM is studying its effect upon different illnesses, e.g., cancer
patients. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rls=GFRD,GFRD:2007-16,GFRD:

In 1990, researchers found that the administration of noni extract shows a significant dose-related, central analgesic
activity in mice. An analgesic is a substance which reduces or eliminates pain. The researchers went on to say that noni
extract did not exhibit any toxic effects. It is well documented that noni is not addictive.
It has been accepted that one of the noni fruit’s major benefits is its relief of most types of pain. Noni was 75% as
effective as morphine sulfate in relieving most pain. In addition, noni is not addictive. From the Eastern medicine healers
of Southeast Asia , to the Hawaiian Kahunas, to modern-day researchers like Dr Ralph Heinicke and clinical naturopaths
like Dr Steve Schechter, all agree that noni can relieve pain.
Different theories of how noni alleviates pain have surfaced. Dr. Heinicke believes that pain relief is brought about by
xeronine. Dr Schechter believes that noni allows the body to heal itself, thus relieving pain. Who is right? I suspect they
both are right for if the body is given the right nutrient it will heal itself.
Moreover, there are probably many other unknown substances in noni that contribute synergistically to pain relief. What
does science have to say about Tahitian noni's relief of pain? It is reported that xeronine, a phytonutrient and key
ingredient in noni, has the ability to help normalise abnormal protein and subsequent cellular function, including brain
function, where pain originates. Dr Heinicke has accumulated data consistent with xeronine occupying a site adjacent to
the endomorphin receptor sites. One of noni's effects on the brain was to relieve pain throughout the body. Noni was 75%
as effective as morphine sulfate in relieving most pain. In addition, noni is not addictive.
Whatever the reason, doctors and other health professionals interviewed believe that noni helped 88% of their pain
patients. In 1990, Chafique Younos reported that Dr Joseph Betz, a research chemist with FDA's Division of Natural
Products Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, had said that noni root is reported "as having pain killing and
tranquilizing properties."
The table below contains the statistical analysis data, both primary and secondary applications, that was obtained from
surveying more than 50 doctors and other health professionals who had taken noni and/or given it to over 10,000
patients. It depicts the number of people who drank noni juice for 23 different conditions, the percentage that were
helped, and the primary active components (PAC) believed to be involved. However, although the PAC may be a major
component, it is the total blend of all natural ingredients that result in noni's optimal health benefits. NOTE: Noni can be
taken together with all other medications - there are almost no negative interactions. In some situations, noni can allow
other medications to act more effectively. You should tell your health professional that you are taking noni, as your
physician might want to decrease the dose of the medication prescribed. This often reduces the side effects from the
original medication. Reported side effects were minimal. Less than 5% experienced minor belching, loose stools, allergy,
or developed a mild rash. The belching disappeared when the dose was decreased. The rash and loose stools cleared
within 72 hours after stopping treatment. Noni has been reported safe for pregnant and/or nursing mothers.

A random polled percentage of the majority of noni users, who did not get optimal results failed to do so because they
took lesser dosage and/or took it a lesser time than recommended.
As noted above and in our piece on minerals and phytonutrients appear to be the primary active components (PAC).
Please do not just take Noni juice as a cure all nutrient, but use in conjunction with the recommended 5 nutrients on this
website.
